Roles for Group Work
If you are working with a group on the Founding Documents and National Symbols Webquest, assign one person to take on each of the following roles:

Declaration Researcher: You are in charge of answering these questions: What were the main purposes of the Declaration of Independence? How did the Declaration change from the first draft to the one signed in 1776? What impact has the Declaration of Independence had on the history of the United States and the world? Are there any interesting stories about the signing of the Declaration?

Constitution Researcher: You are in charge of answering these questions: What are the main purposes of the U.S. Constitution? What are the main sections of the Constitution and what is in each section? Can the Constitution be changed? Why and/or how? Are there any interesting stories of the signing of the Constitution?

Anthem Researcher: You are in charge of answering these questions: What is the "Star Spangled Banner" about? Who wrote it and when? How did it become our national anthem? Are there any interesting stories about either the "Star Spangled Banner" or how the national anthem was chosen?

EVERYONE must also research at least one other national symbols. A picture and a caption must be included in your product as well as an explain about why the symbol or place is important to someone learning about the history of our country .Some suggestions include:
  • The White House
  • Washington Monument
  • Lincoln Memorial
  • Congress
  • Jefferson Memorial
  • United States Flag
  • You may also choose a different symbol as long as you can explain how it relates to the history of our country.
