Social Class in Ancient Egypt
As with any advanced society were different social levels present within ancient Egyptian society. As you look at the graphic below, think about the similarities and differences between the social classes of Egypt and Mesopotamia. Coincidentally, a pyramid, a symbol associated with Egypt, is used as a representation of the social classes as well. Can you tell why?

Task A: Research at least two jobs of ancient Egypt. Each job must be in a different social level. Then, create a HELP WANTED ADVERTISEMENT for that job that includes what skills the person needs to have, where they will work, what they will do at work, how much respect and/or wealth they will receive from their job and how they add to the cultural and economy of ancient Egypt. Your want-ad must be TYPED and professional-looking; they will be posted for others to see!

Task B: Research at least two jobs of ancient Egypt. Each job must be in a different social level. Then, write a resume for each job as if you were applying to get them. Include your name (you may create a fictitious name), the skills you have that make you the ideal candidate for this job, how you see this job adding to the economy and culture of Egypt, and what you expect to get from this job (wealth? respect? just enough to survive on?)

Along with the handouts from Mrs. Gablaski, the following websites will give you some information on jobs in Egypt.

Challenge!

The pyramid graphic is generally used to show the social classes of Egypt but seems to say that the pharaoh is most important and unskilled workers and farmers were least important. Do you believe this? Contribute to the discussion above and then create a new graphic that depicts both Egyptian culture and the importance of each social level.
